My news

Any regular readers of this blog might have noticed that my posts have been a bit here, there and everywhere of late. There’ s a simple reason for this: I am pregnant. So, until now, I haven’t been able to blog about the new financial things I’ve had to start juggling with and I’ve also been too busy flopping about feeling, well…sick and tired mostly.

I’ve had my combined test results back for Downs Syndrome. They are okay. I am considered low risk, though out of everyone I know who have had these tests, I still have the highest odds, in some cases by quite a long way. I am trying to get my head around this and be positive but I’ve found the last couple of days extremely difficult. According to the scan everything is fine, for which I am very grateful. Opinion seems so divided on these tests that I am beyond knowing what to make of it all. Husband is placing full confidence in the words ‘low risk’. I wish I could manage to do the same. I expect I will, given a bit of time for it all to sink in properly. Basically I am thrilled to be having a baby but also freaked out by the test results.

Either way, there are going to be a lot of changes coming up for us. Our finances will be facing a whole new set of of challenges, not to mention everything else! But, since this is supposed to be a personal finance blog, I will be trying to keep the focus (most of the time) on preparing our home and finances on the things to come…

Does this explain the ‘big shop’ – eating for 2/cravings?!
When I was pregnant I got obsessed by statistics and I used to google every twinge I got. I wish I could have been more relaxed!
Look forward to hearing how it’s all going x

  6. ah, the hazards of comparing with others! Enjoy your pregnancy and try not to dwell on what ultimately is a bunch of numbers that put you on the right side of the happy and healthy baby spectrum. congratulations to your and yours x

Congratulations!!! It’s wonderful news! And I agree with RML & A Piece of Wood, defocus all you want 🙂 It is always hardest with the first to know when to worry and when to just let it go. The doctor has said that you’re low risk. I’d say go with that.

I’ll keep you in my prayers for a happy, healthy baby. Sending hugs to you all from across the pond.

  9. what are the odds exactly? Because you can weigh them up. My results put me where the risk of miscarriage from the injection test was higher than the risk of downs. Which made my decision for me. Also something my midwife said, really really helped. She said that 99% of all babies are normal. Keep that in mind. It is so easy to fear. But if your tests are saying low risk, it really means it. there are always risks with motherhood. its a whole new world of risks. crossing the road, going on a plane, eating, falling down stairs….. you will discover why your mother made such a fuss the whole time about stuff that was completely safe!!!

oh, and sorry – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really exciting news….

I’m sooo happy for you. 🙂 I am sure hearing such possible test results must be really hard. Just take heart and know that what ever happens you will love that baby like nothing else. And enjoy this time being pregnant! It will be the last time your family is just you and your husband, so make sure to enjoy that also. 🙂 Awww I wish I could give you a hug, I’m so overjoyed with this news!
